Throughout history, the wolf has often been cast as an antagonist. Yet the wolf has always been part of the Netherlands’ natural history, playing a vital role within its ecosystem.
This project envisions a symbiotic future by creating space for a wolf pack to settle and thrive within the church annex at the centre of Wolfheze. Through minimal intervention, the design encourages coexistence between humans and wolves, fostering a healthier and more balanced ecosystem.
By gradually peeling back layers of human control, nature is allowed to reassert itself. Wadis, reforested areas, and natural processes reshape the landscape, enabling nature to regain balance and resilience through the quiet presence of its apex predator.
Door de geschiedenis heen is de wolf vaak neergezet als de vijand. Toch maakt de wolf al eeuwenlang deel uit van de Nederlandse natuurgeschiedenis en vervult hij een essentiële rol binnen het ecosysteem.
Dit project schetst een symbiotische toekomst door ruimte te creëren voor een wolvenroedel om zich te vestigen en te gedijen in de kerkelijke annex in het hart van Wolfheze. Met minimale ingrepen stimuleert het ontwerp de co-existentie tussen mens en wolf en draagt het bij aan een gezonder en evenwichtiger ecosysteem.
Door geleidelijk lagen van menselijke controle terug te nemen, krijgt de natuur de ruimte om zichzelf opnieuw te organiseren. Wadi’s, herbeboste zones en natuurlijke processen hervormen het landschap, waardoor de natuur haar balans en veerkracht kan terugvinden via de stille aanwezigheid van haar toproofdier.
