Learning Typology
Learning Typology is een onderzoek naar de intrinsieke waarde van architectuur. De scriptie stelt dat ‘duurzaamheid’ een verwarrend containerbegrip is geworden, en om een duurzaam gebouw in haar originele betekenis (met een lange levensduur) te realiseren, typologie ten grondslag ligt. Tot slot stelt de scriptie dat duurzame architectuur niet alleen rust op flexibiliteit en technologische oplossingen, maar ook op abstractere elementen zoals emotionele waarde en context.
Het onderzoek bestaat uit drie delen: een theoretische verkenning van typologie en haar ontwikkeling, een analyse van zes Nederlandse woningbouwcasussen op schaal van privacy, hiërarchie en ruimtelijke indeling; en een toekomstbestendig ontwerpvoorstel voor het Bartokpark in Arnhem.

Learning Typology is a study that explores the intrinsic value of architecture. The thesis argues that the term ‘sustainability’ has become a confusing catch-all concept. To realize a sustainable building in its original sense (one with a long lifespan). The foundation must be rooted in typology. Furthermore, the thesis emphasizes that sustainable architecture relies not only on flexibility and technological solutions but also on more abstract qualities such as emotional resonance and contextual relevance.
The research is structured in three parts: a theoretical exploration of typology and its historical development; an analysis of six Dutch housing case studies focusing on privacy, hierarchy, and spatial organization; and a resilient design proposal for Bartokpark in Arnhem.
